Door Handle Selection: Door Direction, ROOM / WC / YALE Difference
The most common points of confusion when ordering door handles are the function type (ROOM / WC / YALE) and the door handing. An incorrect selection will prevent the handle from being mounted on the door.
What do ROOM, WC, YALE mean?
- ROOM: no internal locking; used for room and living room doors (latch, lever).
- WC: locks from the inside with a small button/latch; for bathroom-toilet doors. Has an emergency opening slot on the outside.
- YALE: has a hole for a cylinder lock (barrel); locks with a key on entrance and apartment doors.
Right or left?
Stand facing the door: if the hinges are on the right, it's a right-hand door; if on the left, it's a left-hand door. Although some models are reversible (universal), the right/left distinction is important for WC and some backplate models; this will be specified in the product options/variants.
Find the right handle
For various models, see the door handles and rose door handles collections. For cylinders, check the barrel category, and for complete replacement, explore the door locks categories. If you are unsure, send us a photo of your door, and we will determine the correct function together.
